Scratch Me If You Can’t

“Scratch tickets are an undeniably stupid investment, yet 21 percent of Americans still think it's the most practical way to get rich.”
(Gus Lubin and Michael b Kelley, Business Insider, March 2012)

And while I am usually rational I decided that the accumulation of scratch cards would be my medium. To create those pieces I’ve had to scratch around 500 cards, for an investment of approximately 1100$. On all those scratched tickets I have won around 45% of my investment back but without ever winning more then 25$ on a single ticket. This is an ongoing series. It will most likely end when I win.

The pieces in this series are made, by amassing the powder that is created when you scratch a lottery ticket. Every card yields a different kind of powder, in the shape and color of its grains. The scratch card itself is kept, and painted, leaving blank the geometrical forms dictated by the ticket itself when scratching.  I then glue the powder back to where it comes from, within the circumference of the created shapes.
